A near-future city run on caste. The wealthy live above. The poor live below. Beneath both, the factory class — humans worn down to the line, alongside robots tolerated as labor and never as equals.

This is where Tom and Nikhil meet.

F-3 is not a robot that woke up. F-3 is something older. Something alive. Something that learned to hide inside the form of a factory robot because that was the safest place to exist in a city that stopped looking closely at its machines.

The night F-3 said their names was the night the trio became possible.
